AHR STORY

Welcome to AHR PLACE! I’m Ashley Ahr and over the past decade as an Academic Life Coach, I have been privileged to assist hundreds of students on their journeys to adulthood. Each student that blossoms before my eyes fuels my passion for quality education and guidance. Times and technology may change, but celebrating growth with a client never gets old, and it is my hope that every person who walks through my door will remember our time together with fondness. Our relationship is a mutual one and together we get to know and become part of each other’s stories. Here’s mine…

I graduated from Stevenson High School in 2002 and entered Indiana University excited that my life long plan to become a teacher was finally in motion. I immersed myself in opportunities outside of campus and soon was a familiar face in the diverse Bloomington community. Then, one night in February 2003, I met a guy named Joe Ahr. He was a recent IU grad who had accepted a coveted position with the Bloomington Justice Department. I didn’t know how to pronounce his last name, but he knew everyone in town and came to pick me up after class in his suit and tie. Not to be cheesy, but he had me at hello!

Long story short, Joe followed me home to the Chicago ‘burbs and soon my last name became Ahr, too. My aspirations for teaching morphed into pride in motherhood when we welcomed our beautiful baby girl, and my new life as a stay-at-home mom seemed perfect. However, when the economic crash of 2008 rocked our world we, like so many other families at the time, were suddenly faced with the choice of moving out of our home and back in with my parents (no thanks!) or finding a NEW way to make a living.

After months of networking like a madwoman, I was soon working a regular after school tutoring caseload. But the more I worked for other educational resources in the Chicagoland area, the more I realized I was different. I earned the trust of my students through humor and candidness and my focus was not on specific subjects or skills. My mission was to facilitate growth in all areas of a student’s life: school, social, family and future.

Joe joined me at AHR PLACE in 2016 and together we expanded my small, but mighty, practice into a full service learning facility. AHR PLACE is the culmination of my ambition, personality, dedication and genius (if I do say so myself) and our doors are open to all.

So come on over to AHR PLACE. We’ll be waiting for you!
